SnapCut Privacy Policy

SnapCut works without an account. Screenshots and edits stay in the app’s local storage and are not sent to BearField IT.

Last updated: 23 September 2026

Data collection

SnapCut does not send screenshots, annotations, history or settings to BearField IT or an app backend. It has no accounts, advertising, tracking, analytics SDKs or cloud upload service.

The app captures still images only when you request a capture. It does not record video or audio or request access to your microphone, contacts or location.

A local error log contains operation names, timestamps, random capture IDs and fixed error codes. It contains no screenshot content, annotation text or file paths and is removed after 30 days. The log is not uploaded. Animation timers use a system clock to measure elapsed time inside the app; those readings are not transmitted.

Local data and deletion

SnapCut stores original screenshots, editable annotations, crop settings, local sharing copies and a history database inside its macOS app container. Preferences include shortcuts, tool styles, history duration, thumbnail placement and a reference granting access to your chosen save folder. The last captured area is stored with its display identity, coordinates and display mode so it can be captured again.

History is kept for 30 days from capture by default. Change the period or choose Keep indefinitely in Settings → Storage & History. Cleanup runs at startup, after wake and hourly while SnapCut runs. Open editors, pinned references and ongoing sharing protect their captures until closed or finished; the original capture time still determines expiry.

To remove all internal history immediately, quit SnapCut. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Containers/se.snapshelf.app/Data/Library/Application Support/. Move only the SnapShelf folder to the Trash. It contains SnapCut’s internal images, edits, database and error log. Empty the Trash when you want to remove that copy. The older folder name preserves compatibility with earlier versions. Exported files are not affected.

BearField IT has no remote copy of your history and cannot access, delete or restore it. Copies in backups are managed separately by you and your backup service.

Permissions

macOS screen recording permission allows SnapCut to take screenshots. You can withdraw it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Existing history remains available for editing.

You grant access to an export location through the macOS file picker. A security-scoped bookmark lets the app use your selected save folder again. SnapCut is sandboxed and does not request general access to your files.

Launch at login is optional and off by default. Disable it in SnapCut’s Settings or in macOS Login Items.

Sharing and redaction

You decide when to copy an image to the clipboard, save a PNG or drag it to another app. Automatic copying is optional and off by default. Clipboard content may be handled by macOS or clipboard apps you use. Recipients and synced folders may store separate copies under their own policies.

Redaction fully replaces covered pixels in the flattened PNG used for export, copying and dragging. Shared PNGs contain no editable layers. The original remains in internal history for editing until removed; redaction does not erase that original.

SnapCut never removes exported files or recipients’ copies. Delete those where you saved or shared them.

Backups and Apple services

SnapCut does not synchronize history between devices. Your backup tools, including Time Machine, may include local app data. A folder you choose may sync through iCloud Drive or another service. You control those services separately.

Apple handles App Store purchases, TestFlight and optional diagnostic sharing under its own policies. SnapCut does not receive your payment details. If Apple makes crash reports or beta feedback available to us, we use them to investigate problems and improve SnapCut.

Support and website

If you contact us, we receive the contact information and message you choose to provide. We use it to respond and investigate your request, and keep it only as long as needed for that purpose or applicable obligations. Please avoid including private screenshots or other people’s information.

The app’s support and privacy links open bearfieldit.se in your browser. Website visits and contact-form submissions are covered by the separate Website Privacy Policy.

SnapCut is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect personal data from children through the app.

Changes

If SnapCut’s data practices change, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy information before releasing the affected version. Future services are not described as existing functionality.
